“The Abbey Grange” is a story from “The Return of Sherlock Holmes” by Arthur Conan Doyle. In this intriguing tale, Sherlock Holmes is summoned to the Abbey Grange by Inspector Stanley Hopkins to investigate the brutal murder of Sir Eustace Brackenstall. Sir Eustace has been found dead, and his wife, Lady Brackenstall, claims that the murder was committed by a gang of burglars. According to her, the gang, led by a notorious criminal named Jack Crocker, broke into the house, tied her up, and killed her husband when he attempted to defend her.

Holmes and Dr. Watson arrive at the crime scene and begin their meticulous investigation. Holmes quickly notices inconsistencies in Lady Brackenstall’s story and the physical evidence. He observes the details of the room, the condition of the ropes used to bind Lady Brackenstall, and the state of the wine bottles supposedly drunk by the burglars. His keen observations and deductive reasoning lead him to suspect that the crime scene has been staged.
